Dear all,

I´m delighted to have the opportunity to invite you - on behalf of all chairs and board members of the national committees ICOM Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Germany - to our joint conference September 21-23, 2017 in Helsingborg, Sweden and Helsingør, Denmark.

As the conference topic, we have choosen "Difficult Issues". We would like to discuss the stories museum tell. Why are some remembered and others forgotten? Why are some stories highlighted, and others, mainly the hard and uncomfortable ones, hidden?

We also want to debate what restricts museums in their freedom to act - or if we actually restrict ourselves, and in which way. And we would like to reconsider the role of the public and local societies in museums.

Please see the Call for Papers for more information, to be published soon.

We believe that these are exciting and very complex topics, which will surely be controversially discussed. Please contribute and share your own ideas and projects by submitting a paper proposal and/or a post to this new conference blog!

We are looking forward to your contributions and to meet you soon in Helsingborg!

Happy New Year!
Beate Reifenscheid, Chair of ICOM Germany
